Braving the elements is my favourite book in an excellent series. It’s funny, exciting, suspenseful, sexy. I’ve read it several times and enjoyed it every time anew. Here’s a link in case you’re interested: Darkness by KF Breene. Be warned though: it is a paranormal romance. It has vampires, mages, demons, werewolves. And love.
There’s no way, one image could ever embody all the facets of that story. So, instead I illustrated 2 of the scenes that seemed to be burned in my brain. Just a quick note to the style: initially intended as a colour reduced, simplified artwork for a screenprint, I never got around to actually get to the final print process… Just to give it some form of closure, I added texture later. Here are the images.
Hey, I thought I’ll show the underlying drawings too. I always like a glimpse into the making of. So, here are the drawings that I used to trace the scenes with vectors. I intended to screen print the template and vectors are clean and give a lot of flexibility, especially when separating the colours to create the films for screen exposure. Just after realising it’ll most likely never come to that stage, I imported into photoshop, did some lettering on the title and worked in some textures and shades.
